Police Officer Arrested for Unlawful Compensation for Official Behavior

Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) special agents this morning arrested Sanford Police Department Officer Chris McClendon and charged him with one count of unlawful compensation for official behavior, a second degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

In March 2008, the Sanford Police Department contacted FDLE’s Orlando Regional Operations Center and asked FDLE to investigate allegations that Officer McClendon was unlawfully compensated for his involvement in assisting a Sanford auto sales company with repossessions. The FDLE investigation revealed that McClendon used his law enforcement position to assist in repossessions. In return, McClendon’s personal auto loan, given by the same auto sales company, was forgiven. The total unlawful compensation received by McClendon is approximately $8,000.

McClendon was booked at the Seminole County Jail on $2,000 bond.
