Agents arrest Ponte Vedra Man for Traveling to Meet a Minor for Sex

4/14/2008

Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Computer Crime Center arrested a Ponte Vedra man on Sunday after he traveled to Tallahassee to meet with who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Paul John Mucci, 51, was charged with two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and three counts of online enticement of a minor for sex acts. He was booked into the Leon County Jail.

Mucci became a suspect during an undercover operation by FDLE’s Computer Crime Center. During the operation, Mucci chatted online with an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl. During the chats, Mucci expressed a strong desire to meet with the “girl” in person for sex and traveled to Tallahassee on Sunday allegedly for this reason.

During the course of the investigation, agents learned Mucci was aggressively trying to find a young girl to meet with for sex and was also chatting online with other undercover Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force members with the Lake County, Broward County, and St. Lucie County sheriff’s offices as well as the Attorney General’s office in Orlando. As recently as this past Friday, Mucci had booked a hotel room for this upcoming week to meet another “girl” he was chatting with online, who was actually an undercover investigator with St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. Mucci may face additional charges stemming from these chats.

Agents with FDLE’s Tallahassee and Jacksonville office assisted with the arrest.
FDLE is an active member of the three Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces in Florida. There are 45 federally-funded task forces nationwide created solely to investigate Internet crimes against children that include the online sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.
