Lee County Man Charged with Sexual Battery of a Child may have Connections to Other Assaults Across the Country

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announces the arrest of a Lee County man accused of sexually assaulting a child and possessing numerous photographs and videos of homemade child pornography. FDLE special agents arrested Matthew Harford, 75, and charged him with one count of sexual battery by a person in custodial authority on a person under 12 years of age, seventeen counts of promoting sexual performance by a child, and eighteen counts of sexual performance by a child.
On Sept. 28, FDLE special agents received information from a resident of Lee County about possible child pornography found in a motor home that Harford had used in the past. On Friday, Oct. 5, FDLE special agents served a search warrant at Hartford’s current residence located at 4323 Skates Circle, Fort Myers, Fla. During the search numerous photographs and videos were found containing child pornography. Hartford was taken into custody and questioned. During the interview with special agents, Harford admitted to taking the photographs and making the videos and sexual assaulting one of the boys identified in the photographs.
Evidence indicates there may be more victims. Harford has traveled throughout the United States including New York and Texas and has lived in the Miami area. He has also traveled several times to the Orlando area. Agents are asking anyone who has had contact with Matthew Harford to call the FDLE Fort Myers Regional Operations Center at 1-800-407-4880.
Harford was booked into the Lee County Jail under no bond. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
