FDLE Investigates Shooting in Escambia County

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred late Friday evening in Pensacola.


Deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve a warrant as part of an undercover narcotics investigation. The suspect fled from the residence and fired at the officers as they pursued him. Two officers returned fire and as a result, the suspect was shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital where he was taken for medical treatment.

The suspect has been identified as 25 year old Omar D. Caldwell. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Escambia County.

The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the FDLE investigation.
