FDLE Arrests Internet Predator

11/7/2007

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement today arrested a Jacksonville man who traveled to Tallahassee to have sex with an underage girl. Jerry Leon, 55, was arrested this afternoon when he arrived at a convenience store in a north side neighborhood.

The arrest follows several weeks of chat room conversations between Leon and an undercover agent from FDLE’s Florida Computer Crimes Center posing as a 13-year-old girl. The case was part of “Operation Travelin’ Man,” a multi-agency sting operation created to arrest Internet predators who infiltrate chat rooms for the purpose of meeting children for sex, or to connect with “dirty parents,” adults willing to allow predators to engage in sex with their underage children. The operation was the cooperative effort of several local, state and federal agencies.
After weeks of chat, Leon, 55, allegedly made arrangements with the “girl” to meet today for sex. When he arrived at the meeting place, he was placed under arrest. He now faces several charges related to the use of the Internet to exploit a minor for sex and traveling to meet a minor for sex.

Four men were arrested during the first week of “Operation Travelin’ Man” last month but dozens more who chatted with undercover agents remain under investigation and additional arrests are anticipated.

The Tallahassee Police Department assisted in today’s arrest.
