First Regional Intelligence Fusion Center Opens in Central Florida

8/24/2007

Law enforcement agencies from all over Central Florida are proud to announce the opening of The Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX). The goal of CFIX is to provide information and knowledge, in the form of actionable intelligence, to policy and decision makers. CFIX will collect, analyze, produce and report intelligence in order to help law enforcement detect, deter, disrupt, and deny terrorist activity.

CFIX combines the intelligence of Brevard, Indian River, Lake, Martin, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, St. Lucie, and Volusia County Sheriff's offices, Orlando Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. This is one of the few regional agencies of its kind in the United States.

The 9-11 Commission Report states "terrorism is a local event that requires critical involvement of the state and local government in prevention and response." With this in mind these combined law enforcement agencies believe this is an important step in the protection of its citizens.

Raw video of the opening of the fusion center is available to the media. It includes interviews with Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent in Charge Joyce S. Dawley, Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary and Undersheriff Malone Stewart. The DVD will be at the front desk of the Orange County Sheriff's Office 2500 West Colonial Drive.
