Firearms Evidence Submission Guidelines

  • The firearms section does not limit the number of items (fired components or firearms) that can be submitted for examination.

  • Submit all items needing firearms comparison at the same time. If this cannot be done, please indicate on the submission paperwork that more items will be coming to the laboratory at a future date.

  • Test fired bullets and/or cartridge cases should not be submitted in lieu of the firearm when comparison to fired components (i.e. fired cartridge cases and bullets/fragments) is requested.

  • When a firearm is recovered in water, keep the firearm submerged in the same water, ideally contained in a new, clean paint can or bucket and notify the lab prior to submission.

  • If you have a distance determination request, please contact the firearms supervisor prior to submission.

  • If you have a trigger pull request, please contact the firearms supervisor prior to submission.
