Aggravated Assault

UCR Definition

The Florida Uniform Crime Reports Program defines an aggravated assault as an unlawful attack by one person upon another where either the offender displays a weapon or the victim suffers obvious severe or aggravated bodily injury involving apparent broken bones, loss of teeth, possible internal injury, severe laceration, or loss of consciousness.  Simple assaults are excluded.
The UCR Manual contains more information about these definitions.  Attempted murder is included as Aggravated Assault in the UCR definition.

784.045  Aggravated battery 

784.07  Assault or battery of law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical care providers, public transit employees or agents, or other specified officers   

784.08  Assault or battery on persons 65 years of age or older    


There were 57,984 aggravated assaults reported in 2017.  Firearms were used in 17,697 of the aggravated assaults reported.

There were 26,624 arrests for aggravated assault in 2017.  Of these arrests, 1,956 were juveniles and 24,668 were adults.
