ABOUT BUSINESSAFE

BusinesSafe is designed to involve local businesses in protecting the safety and well-being of Florida’s residents and visitors from threats – man-made or natural.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE’s) Office of Domestic Security and seven Regional Domestic Security Task Forces (RDSTFs) launched BusinesSafe to provide businesses with the necessary tools to keep Florida safe.

The RDSTFs are co-chaired by FDLE Special Agents in Charge and a sheriff or a police chief from within each region. The RDSTFs are a cooperative effort and include partners from Emergency Management, Fire/Rescue, Health, Education, Law Enforcement, and Communication officials as well as representatives from the Private Sector.

Businesses can sign up to receive electronic alert notifications via e-mail, cellular phones and/or personal digital assistants. These notices provide information about breaking news, possible threats, suspicious activity and specific preparedness techniques for businesses. Additionally, BusinesSafe alert recipients can access other websites (via the BusinesSafe “links” page) which will provide vital information on how to better protect their respective business from security breaches. Click here for additional links.

BusinesSafe provides sector specific Fact Sheets for businesses to follow. These sheets are categorized by the type of business and are patterned after a program that was created by the New York City Police Department after the attacks of 9/11/01. This information is designed to help businesses identify suspicious activities which may result in a threat to business establishments both public and private.

Anyone who owns or operates a business in Florida should take part in BusinesSafe. Executives, risk management officials, human resource professionals, security personnel, and citizens are also encouraged to sign up to receive BusinesSafe alerts by clicking here.

We encourage anyone to immediately report unusual or suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency, regional FDLE office or to Crime Stoppers. For additional information regarding domestic security or to submit a tip regarding a suspicious incident log on here.

For all emergencies, call “911”.
