Oviedo, Fla. - Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Orlando Regional Operations Center's Cyber High-Tech Crime Squad, as part of a multi-agency task force, arrested Herbert Mathis, 38, of Oviedo, Fla., on 20 counts of possession of child pornography, a 2nd degree felony. Mathis turned himself in late Friday night.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement task force agents initiated an undercover investigation in Oct. 2013 to identify individuals sharing files containing child pornography. This investigation led agents to the home of Mathis, 2868 Gulf Winds Court, Oviedo, Fla.
Agents executed a search warrant at Mathis’ home on Nov. 26, 2013. Evidence recovered during the warrant shows that images of child pornography had been downloaded and shared.
Mathis turned himself in and was booked into the John Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford, Fla., where he is being held on a $100,000 bond.
The case is being prosecuted by the Florida Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution in Orlando, Fla.
The multi-agency task force consists of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Homeland Security/ICE, Altamonte Police Department, Oviedo Police Department and the Winter Springs Police Department.
