Total Index Crime for Florida, 1990 - 2010

From 1990 to 2010, Florida experienced a significant decrease in both the number (31.4%) and rate (51.8%) of reported Total Index Crimes. Rate is calculated per 100,000 population. Florida's population increased 42.75% during the period. Violent crime decreased 36.5% in number (55.5% in rate), and Property crime decreased 30.5% in number (51.3% in rate).
Violent Crimes include Murder, Sexual Offenses, Robbery, and Aggravated Assault. Property Crimes include Burglary, Larceny, and Motor Vehicle Theft. The proportion of violent and property crimes as a percentage of all reported offenses has remained steady over time.
