FAQ's

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: What exactly is the Law Enforcement Analyst Training Program?

A: The Program consists of three courses of training: the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training I, the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training II, and the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Academy. They are referred to as FLEAT I, FLEAT II, and the Academy.

For specific information regarding each course and its curriculum click on their respective links.

Q: I want to go to the Academy, how do I sign up?

A: Before you apply to attend the Academy you have to successfully complete two courses sponsored by FDLE: the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training I (FLEAT I), the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training II (FLEAT II).  If you have not completed those 2 courses, you will need to do so before your application will be considered.

If you have already completed those courses, then all you need to do is submit a Nomination/Application package. Once your application is received you will be placed on a waiting list for attendance and notified at a later date. We’re sorry but immediate notification may not be possible.

At this time we are unable to substitute any other courses in lieu of FLEAT I and FLEAT II.

Q: How do I know if I qualify to attend  the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training I and the Florida Law Enforcement Analyst Training II?

A: You must be employed by law enforcement in an analytical position with a title consistent with your duties (i.e. crime analyst, intelligence analyst, government analyst, etc…).

Q: I perform analytical tasks but my title doesn’t reflect that. Can I still attend any of the training?

A: Probably. FDLE recognizes that many departments in Florida do not have budgeted law enforcement analysts. If your department head sends a letter confirming that you are doing analytical work it will be reviewed and you will be contacted as to whether your duties meet the qualifications for attendance. Letters can be e-mailed to AnalystTraining@fdle.state.fl.us.

Q: What is the fee to attend these courses?

A: There is no charge to attend these courses. Hotel and per diem expenses are also paid for through a Federal grant. Your agency will need to provide transportation to and from the training location.  We cannot reimburse transportation costs.  FDLE takes care of hotel payment, reservations, etc. and you will be reimbursed after your training with a check for meal allowance (per diem).

Q:  Who is eligible for travel reimbursement and how does that work?

A:   As stated above, FDLE takes care of hotel payment, reservations, etc. and you will be reimbursed after your training with a check for meal allowance (per diem).  You must reside outside of the 50 mile radius to be eligible for travel reimbursement per State policy.  If selected to attend, your room reservation will be made on your behalf at the approved hotel and you will need to provide a credit card upon check-in for incidental charges, if applicable.

Q: Where are the courses held?

A: All of the courses typically travel the entire state, but we do try to hit the north and south parts of the state each year.

Q: Can I attend training at a specific location?

A: Although we try to meet specific requests, it is not always possible.  A student may have to wait longer to attend if they require a certain training location.

Q: What happens if I am not able to attend if selected for training?

A: We will keep your application or registration information for future classes.  Academy applications are good for one year after the application is received.

Q: How long are the waiting lists?

A: Waiting lists typically have over 50 people on them so if possible, we urge you to accept the date and location you were selected to attend. Since there are a number of classes offered each year, if your name is on a waiting list you should have no problem getting in that year.

Q: How often are the courses held?

A: FLEAT I and FLEAT II are typically held three to four times a year. The Academy is held twice.

Q: What are the specific dates of the courses?

A: The Academy starts a new Class each January and July. If you are selected to attend you will be notified as to the specific weeks that training will be held.

For FLEAT I and FLEAT II, check the respective websites for specific dates; but they usually aren’t confirmed until about two months prior to the training.
